Hello Michael,

"shock" ist the more general and overriding category, "impact" the special
case when a space rock gets caught by the gravitational field of a planetary
or quasi-planetary body and crashes at least down to surface.

A shock event can also take place in space when two chunks of rock collide.

Just my 2 Euro-cents.
