I congratulated them to their splendid discovery, underlined how much this meteorite fascinates me and asked, if there'd be any new insights in regard to the terrestrian age of Gebel Kamil. I never received any answer. Nothing. It's not too important of course, but so much for the readiness of some members of the scientific community to share and communicate their knowledge - what they should do, not only 'cause they're paid with public money, I guess, but also based on a vital interest in their subjects. Fortunately there're many scientists, the majority most probably, who think and act different, open, willing to cooperate also with the non-scientific part of the meteorite community. The NYT article at least mentions this fact (thank you, Dr. Agee, but: caution! - dealing with the black market makes you guilty as well ;). Possibly it would be a wise reaction to concentrate cooperation on these memebers of the scientific community and ignore people like Dres. Harvey and DiMartino. In any case, Martin, yes, Dr. Harvey's statement: "It's a black market (...) It's as organized as any drug trade and just as illegal" deserves an apology as well as a public justification. It's as apparently false as simply justiciable. Best as ever, Matthias ----- Original Message ----- From: "Martin Altmann" <altmann at meteorite-martin.de> To: <meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 05, 2011 2:00 AM Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] BS In The NYT: Black Market Trinkets From Space No Phil. I have perhaps only still 30-40 years to live. Knock on wood. I'm no almoner, nor - other than them - I'm so parasitic to be paid by the public for insulting and for doing damage to other people and to my professional branch. Rather than hunting reckless idiots, who seem to haven't had any form of education at home, I would like to hunt meteorites. The stones are most important for science and not these few single intellectual will-o-wisps. They are replaceable, the work the private meteorite sector does, is not. In my eyes, with that article Dr.Harvey and Dr.DiMartino made an exhibition of themselves. They should be ashamed. They're a shame for their guild. I think we all here on the list expect an apology from them and a rectification by them published in the same place. Everything else, neither a discussion with these persons, wouldn't make sense, before that hasn't happened. In former times people really had more manners, education, sense of responsibility and knowledge. Such people make the new times, we have to live in, and that makes me puke. Martin (Sorry for that expression - in my next post, you will see something more unbelievable than that NYT-article, so that you will forgive me not to have kept countenance...) -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: meteorite-list-bounces at meteoritecentral.com [mailto:meteorite-list-bounces at meteoritecentral.com] Im Auftrag von JoshuaTreeMuseum Gesendet: Dienstag, 5. I propose that Martin Altmann compose a scathing rebuttal to this melange of blithering blather. __________________________ Phil Whitmer ______________________________________________ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list ______________________________________________ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list __________ Hinweis von ESET Smart Security, Signaturdatenbank-Version 6015 (20110404) __________ E-Mail wurde gepr?ft mit ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Hinweis von ESET Smart Security, Signaturdatenbank-Version 6015 (20110404) __________ E-Mail wurde gepr?ft mit ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Hinweis von ESET Smart Security, Signaturdatenbank-Version 6015 (20110404) __________ E-Mail wurde gepr?ft mit ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Hinweis von ESET Smart Security, Signaturdatenbank-Version 6015 (20110404) __________ E-Mail wurde gepr?ft mit ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com __________ Hinweis von ESET Smart Security, Signaturdatenbank-Version 6015 (20110404) __________ E-Mail wurde gepr?ft mit ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com Received on Tue 05 Apr 2011 04:24:27 AM PDT |
