It was a Delta II rocket from the Vandenberg Air Force Base carrying Italy's COSMO SkyMed-4 satellite to Earth orbit. The SkyMed-4 is equipped with a radar that can image any part of Earth's surface--a capability that will come in handy both for military surveillance and scientific research. Follow the links for launch photos: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5. http://spaceweather.com/archive.php?view=1&day=06&month=11&year=2010 Some food for thought John -----Original Message----- From: meteorite-list-bounces at meteoritecentral.com [mailto:meteorite-list-bounces at meteoritecentral.com] On Behalf Of Rob Matson Sent: Wednesday, November 10, 2010 12:11 AM To: Meteorite Central Subject: [meteorite-list] OT: candidate for SoCal contrail Just to try to close the book on this, here's my candidate for the source of the November 8th contrail: <http://flightaware.com/live/flight/AWE808/history/20101108/1955Z/PHNL/K PHX> Boeing 757-200 from Honolulu to Phoenix flew right over Catalina Island at 37,000 feet at the time in question. --Rob ______________________________________________ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list Received on Wed 10 Nov 2010 11:08:23 AM PST |
