Certainly, finding a meteorite from this April 14th 2010 fall is a memory I'll never forget. But the bills for the trip are now due. And instead of paying for my trip by cutting slices from my one and only WI find (31 grams), I thought I would offer for sale other specimens of U.S. falls from my collection on eBay: <http://shop.ebay.com/bolide*chaser/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340> The CHARLOTTE Meteorite. This Iron - IVA type, Fell to Earth on July 31, 1835 at 1400hrs, in Dickson County, Tennessee, USA. Charlotte (Iron, IVA), etched-slice (0.34g) <http://tin.er.usgs.gov/meteor/get_original_photo.php?recno=5628449> The NOBLEBOROUGH Meteorite. This Achondrite - Polymict Eucrite type, Fell to Earth on August 7th, 1823 at 16:30hrs, in Lincoln County, Maine, USA. Nobleborough (AEUC), slice (0.098 grams) <http://meteorite-recovery.tripod.com/bolide-chaser/nobleborough-nems.jpg> The PETERSBURG Meteorite. This Achondrite - Polymict Eucrite type, Fell to Earth on August 5th, 1855 at 15:30hrs, in Lincoln County, Tennessee, USA. Petersburg, partslice (0.12 grams) <http://meteorite-recovery.tripod.com/bolide-chaser/petersburg-mcott.jpg> <http://meteorite-recovery.tripod.com/bolide-chaser/petersburg-nems.jpg> All of these classical USA Falls have the same provenance: from Russ Kempton at NEMS via the Michael Cottingham Meteorite Collection. Not a Fall, but still destined to be a classic USA meteorite - the Los Angeles Mars-rock Shergottite - endcut (0.85g) a special offering for the collector that is a FUSION-CRUST aficionado! <http://meteorite-recovery.tripod.com/bolide-chaser/la2wi0_85ec.jpg> If interested, there are more images on the auction site. All of the above specimens are now listed on eBay: <http://shop.ebay.com/bolide*chaser/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p4340> Hope you enjoy the images, Bob V. ______________________________________________ Visit the Archives at http://www.meteoritecentral.com/mailing-list-archives.html Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list Received on Sat 05 Jun 2010 11:55:03 AM PDT |
