Hello everyone -

If you go over to http://cosmictusk.com, you'll find a new series of "bays" from the mid-west published with backtrack vectors. I myself am unable to overlay this image with the earlier "bay" backtracks from the Carolinas, but they appear to overlap north-west of Chicago. The earlier "bay" backtracks from the Carolinas converged to two separate points in that area.

Could anyone here overlay the midwest and carolina mappings, and then post the image somewhere where all meteorite list members could get to it? (May I suggest back at cosmic tusk?)

The current unstated assumption seems to be that the "bays" were caused by the secondary impacts of ice chunks ejected by the initial impacts, but I am not sure of that. It may have been that the "bays" were caused by smaller fragments of Comet Encke diverted by tangential force generated by the initial impacts of larger fragments.

So what finally would be needed would be the backtracks overlain over and image of the ice sheet at that time.

If anyone is going to hunt this, I would like to go along, but can not drive in Chicago area traffic.

If anyone wants a copy of the Trempealeau petroglyph, e-mail me off list and I'll sent it along.

Details for ordering signed copies of the first edition of "Man and Impact in the Americas" are also available at http://cosmictusk.com. $20 plus $5 shipping US, $15 overseas.

good hunting,
