In some of the largest hyper-velocity impacts nuclear biding forces appear to be broken, freeing neutrons and protons to formm 14C and 10Be. For example, from the looks of INTCAL98 14C production measure, the Barringer Impact may be dated ca 44,000 BCE. E.P.
