Greg,

It all depends on what they are selling, the quality and the prices. That
person might've had great quality material, but if the price is too high,
the material won't sell well.

> Could this show be a dissapointment like Denver was?

Was Denver a disappointment??? I don't know how any of the dealers at the
hotel show did (which is where most of the meteorite dealers were), but the
main Denver Show went very well, especially considering the economy and
ridiculous gas prices. BTW, the main show has only one meteorite dealer;
the rest are mostly terrestrial rocks, minerals, some jewelry, fossils, etc.
So if you are talking about meteorite sales, then I don't know the stats of
that. I've been on the Denver Show Committee for 5 years and have worked
with the dealers for 3 of those years (Dealer Chairman the first two years).
I talked to a bunch of them during and immediately after the show in
September. Many said this was a record $$$ year for them! But most said
they did the same as other years. Only a few said that they had lower sales
than other years. Attendance at the main Show was down by only 3.3% from
the 2007 show, but considering the price of gas at that time (more than
$3.50/gallon if I remember correctly), we were extremely happy and knew,
once again, that it was a great show for most of the dealers and visitors.
This was the third highest attendance total for the main Denver Show in the
last 11 years.

To all Tucson Show participants, I hope all buyers and sellers do well at
this year's show.

Bob Loeffler

I only have talked to one person out there - they sell earth rocks and
minerals, not meteorites - they told me that they have done nothing like
previous years there at this point. Maybe its just that area that isnt doing
well, maybe its him... he sells really nice stuff so I know the quality is
not an issue.

As far as cost...
I was totally floored by the cost of this and think Adams comments about it
are perfectly correct. I honestly hope you all do well, I cant imagine what
the cost is for one of the rooms at the Inn and would hate to hear anyone
lost out when the economy is tough to start.
For me, I would have been traveling with my 2 kids, but my wife would have
had to stay home to work. The costs involved would have wiped us out and
left me with no money to spend once I was there. Much of what I could
possibly sell would surely be offered by others who are more well known for
far less so selling some stuff to provide some spending money wasnt an
option.

Hi Greg and List Members,

You are right about it being expensive. The hotels and rental car agencies
jack up their prices to ridiculous levels during the show. You cannot get a
direct flight in without passing through Phoenix where almost every flight
is overbooked. One year, Zann and I got bumped four times on a guaranteed
flight, not standby.

I told myself after last year's show, I would never attend again. It simply
wasn't worth it anymore.? In the past, there were always some great deals to
be had but very few last year. I added up all of my travel expenses and
could have spent several weeks in Hawaii or taken a cruise for what it cost
to stay there less than a week.

Add in the fact, that two different local motels, two years in row, took it
upon themselves to rip off funds from my credit card and you get the idea.
To add insult to injury, even the crime ridden and bed bug infested motels
on Miracle Mile triple their prices during the show because Tucson doesn't
have the capacity to host this many guests without them. One year, we booked
on-line with a so-called "two star rated motel" and got stuck in one these
units, complete with a crack pipe hidden in the disgusting kitchenette. It
smelt as if somebody had been buried underneath it. Then there is the
traffic problems due to never ending road construction.

I used to put up with all of this because it was great to escape the rainy
and ever cloudy Northwest for better weather, the parties were fun and there
used to be some great deals.

This year will probably be the last time I go to the Tucson show.? The only
thing that brings me back this year is that I enjoy talking to collectors
and enthusists about meteorites. I also have some unfinished business that
needs to be concluded this year.

I do wish everybody who is attending a good time and apologize for the
negativity.? The subject came up about how expensive it is and I wanted to
address this since it is a sore spot with me.

Best Regards,

Adam
