The 2009 gem show is now part of history. We spent Saturday afternoon breaking down our displays, and the movers arrived at noon on Sunday to truck our show cases back to my office. Anne Black hit the road for Denver after lunch. The big tents are coming down, and forklift trucks are loading heavy palettes of amethyst cathedrals into containers down by I-10. We were open for fifteen straight days, plus a few more for loading in and loading out. It's a long haul, very tiring, but also exciting and rewarding, particularly with so many friends and colleagues from the M- List stopping by Suite 230 to say hello. I'd like to thank Anne Black for being such a fabulous showroom partner, Steve Arnold #1 for bringing some great Brenham specimens along and for just being himself, and our showroom assistants Lisa Marie and Tim Arbon who patiently and endlessly answered questions along the lines of: "How do you know it's really from Mars?" The '09 Birthday Bash and Harvey Awards were, IMO, the best ever, and I tip my hat to Chicago Steve for snapping some excellent shots. If any List members have other good photos from the party -- especially of the Harvey winners accepting their awards -- please email me off- List, as I could use some additional shots. Congrats to the '09 Harvey Award winners. Richly deserved, every one. Dr. Larry Lebofsky and I will co-author a photo essay about the '09 show for the May issue of "Meteorite," and I hope you will enjoy that. In the meantime, I invite you to visit my new meteorite blog, where I have published a brief show wrap-up and a few photos: http://www.meteoriteblog.org Special thanks to Jim Breitinger for the portrait photo. And especially our thanks to everyone who flew or drove in to Tucson to be part of the greatest show on earth. James Bond will return in . . . I mean the gem show will return in 2010 -- the year we make contact, as Arthur C. Clarke once predicted. Less than 49 weeks to go.
