Hi Carl, Geoff, and List,

The big "secret" of meteorite hunting for finds like "Alpha" is
something that Steve Arnold himself has mentioned here on the List in
the past - prior to the Meteorite Men TV show.

There is a wealth of information that is available to the general
public - this includes maps, reports, newspapers, deeds, public
filings, etc. If a studious person was to comb through the data that
is already available (courtesy of Nininger and others), then one can
go back to the sites of previous finds and look for "left overs" using
more modern equipment and techniques. The best place to find
meteorites is where meteorites have already been found. :)

The are more strewnfields to re-visit and re-comb than there are
meteorite hunters to do it. There are 1530 approved meteorites found
in the US, according the Met Bulletin. Somewhere in that number is a
strewnfield full of spectacular meteorites that is waiting to be
rediscovered - and probably many more like it. If you take every
well-known and successful hunter on this List and divide up the 1530
finds/falls, that would keep them booked up solid well into the 90's.
Steve and Geoff would be rolling around wheat fields in wheelchairs by
then. ;) LOL
