I would also be interested in obtaining DVDs of the first 10 years of
Meteorite Magazine.

Subject: [meteorite-list] Call for Articles for the August issue ofMeteorite
magazine

Hello Everyone:

Some good news. While we have not seen our February Issue of Meteorite
magazine yet, I have heard from some of our European colleagues that their
issues arrived over the weekend. It is usually the situation that foreign
airmail is faster that US first class and much faster than magazine rate.
So, look for your copy of Meteorite coming soon!

Nancy and I are now finishing off the editing of the May issue (it never
ends). At this point, I do not know which articles will make it into the
issue. While I do give the publisher a priority list, there are times
that, for a variety of reasons, articles get held over to the next issue.
When I know what will be in the May issue, I will send out another email.

I am hoping that we will be able to have some additional color pages in
this issue. Color has been limited due to the rising cost of printing, but
we are looking into ways of raising funds in order to support more color
pages and other programs. More on this later.

It is now time to think about writing an article for the August issue of
Meteorite. The due date is May 19. I spoke to some of you at the Tucson
Gem and Mineral Show and I will be in touch with you soon to remind you
about your potential articles. Articles can be anywhere from about 1,000
words up to 2,500 words (or a little longer) with 4 or 5 pictures. A good
picture might even make it to the cover! We also welcome book reviews
(there will be one or two in the May issue) and letters to the editors.

Now for some additional news. We are considering putting the first 10
years of Meteorite magazine on one or two DVDs. None of these issues are
available from the publisher (all out of stock). It is our hope to use
this money to create an Editors' Discretionary Fund that can be used to
support projects such as additional color pages and to continue
Meteorite's support of the Brian Mason Travel Award which funds students
to attend the annual Meteoritical Society Meeting.

The DVD project will be no small task since there are 40 issues at 44
pages per issue, and an index will need to be created. Before we proceed,
we need to get a feel for how many people would be interested in
purchasing a copy. The number of people interested will greatly affect the
number of DVDs produced, which in turn will affect the selling price. We
look forward to hearing from you with possible articles and interest in
the DVD.

I hope that you will soon receive your February issue of Meteorite in the
mail and that you enjoy it.

Larry and Nancy Lebofsky
Editors, Meteorite magazine
