I attended a lecture recently at Brown University where the presentation was on lunar flashes and gas release. Only a few years ago the mere suggestion that the moon was not completely dead and free from any sources of light was professional suicide. The same was true for anyone who suggested that Clovis was not the absolute first of the human species to populate North America, or that no radiation could possibly be ejected from a black hole... There is always a bit of arrogance to the prevailing view in any branch of science, which causes people to ultimately question how it was they locked themselves into such a narrow point of view.
