Hi Mckinney and all, Soaking it in diesel might not be such a good idea as such fuels absorb water and would further add oxygen molecules to the Brahine slice causing further rusting. Especially if you soaked it for a long time. The method suggested by Graham Ensor Sounds like a good one. To resurface and polish your treated slice, I'd take off any old coatings and use an ultra fine finishing polishing paper then some sort of gem polish to finish it off and buff it out. I'd recommend sealing it with a coating to help keep it dry. I'd watch the piece carefully for the next few months as the process will need to be repeated if it starts to rust again. The other option is to buy lapidary equipment to work it. Costs vary. Best and good luck. --AL Mitterling Mitterling Meteorites Received on Sat 27 Oct 2007 07:41:15 AM PDT |
