My translation: Desaguadero, Oct 11. The Desaguadero police department will withdraw from the zone in Carancas where the meteorite fell last September 15th, informed Major Victor Anaya, chief of police of that district. Through prior coordination with the local authorities of the impact zone, at 17:00 hours today, 20 policeme officers of the Puno local division, 3 officers, and 40 sub-officers will be releived of duty by personel of the Puno Seranazgo (I have no idea what type of unit this is). This action will be attended by officials of local authorities and representatives of the Public Minister, he told Andina news agency. In spite of this, he assured that "The police patrolls will surround the site at all times" and "it will be hughly guarded". The police chief insisted that the withdrawl obeys "higher orders" an is not because of badwill generated after the accusations of the so-called "meteoritehunter" Michael Farmer, who informed that the Desaguadero police sold him fragments of the celestial body which fell on the community of Carancas. He also added that he would go forward with official charges against the northamerican "for defaming me, insulting my honor, the honor of my family, and my institution". Finally, Anaya asked that the crater be roofed over to prevent it's deterioration when the coming rains arrive, which at this time, are on the horizon.
