I did my research, however, and have had monumental success with the unit I purchased. If you are planning to lap lots of slices now and in to the future I would recommend a Covington Maxi Diamond Lap. I absolutely love mine. It has quick changing heads and no arbor hole. TONS of work space. You can mount up to a 10" heads/discs on it, but the 8" heads it came with are plenty big for my slices. I start with 220 grit and end at 1220. This assuming you have a good blade to cut in the first place and no deep saw marks are left behind. This machine is a bit of an investment, but worth many years of use. If you are interested, I can put you in touch with someone that sells them for just a little over cost. The Inland is cheap, but you have a tiny work space and the heads take much longer to change. The Inland doesn't look like a machine that will last years and years either. The Covington is cast aluminum and built like a tank... and damn it's fast. Kind regards, ? I have a variety of belt sanders and palm sanders but I don't know what kind of abrasive to use, is there a specific type for polishing "stone like" material? Of do I have to buy a machine like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA% 3AIT&viewitem=&item=300107079366&rd=1&rd=1 Any help would be appreciated. ______________________________________________ Meteorite-list mailing list Meteorite-list at meteoritecentral.com http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list Received on Wed 02 May 2007 10:49:22 PM PDT |
