Assuming you mean Ghubara :) First, I should mention that I am new to
cutting and polishing, so you can take what I have to say with a grain of
salt. I did my research, however, and have had monumental success with the
unit I purchased. If you are planning to lap lots of slices now and in to
the future I would recommend a Covington Maxi Diamond Lap. I absolutely love
mine. It has quick changing heads and no arbor hole. TONS of work space. You
can mount up to a 10" heads/discs on it, but the 8" heads it came with are
plenty big for my slices. I start with 220 grit and end at 1220. This
assuming you have a good blade to cut in the first place and no deep saw
marks are left behind. This machine is a bit of an investment, but worth
many years of use. If you are interested, I can put you in touch with
someone that sells them for just a little over cost.

The Inland is cheap, but you have a tiny work space and the heads take much
longer to change. The Inland doesn't look like a machine that will last
years and years either. The Covington is cast aluminum and built like a
tank... and damn it's fast.

Kind regards,
?

Subject: [meteorite-list] Polishing Chondrite Slices

I just bought a Ghubaro and plan to have part of it made into a sphere,
obviously ;), and the rest will be cut into slices

I would like to polish the slices and was wondering if anyone has any
experience doing this.

I have a variety of belt sanders and palm sanders but I don't know what kind

of abrasive to use, is there a specific type for polishing "stone like"
material?

Of do I have to buy a machine like this one:

3AIT&viewitem=&item=300107079366&rd=1&rd=1

Any help would be appreciated.
