Experts explain the phenomenon as a piece of either a comet or an asteroid, which vaporises in a great cloud of light when it hits our atmosphere. The Hawke's Bay Astronomy Society says it is a common occurrence with at least one hitting every day, but only about ten a year are reported to them. Vice President Graham Palmer says people often mistake the shower of light as plane explosions or UFOs, but he says there is no cause for concern. Received on Thu 19 Jul 2007 04:57:13 PM PDT |
