Today, Greg Nowacek of Wichita State University appeared on local ABC during the lunch time. (Not sure about coverage on other news slots) and NBC came down and interviewed Kansas Meteorite Society member Jerry Calvert. I believe CBS ran something as well, but i only have one TV so I don't know for sure.) In Jerry's interview he talked about Nininger (born here) and the news story included a photo of him, which was neat. (Not often you see Nininger in the local news). Sadly, the local "Renaissance Faire" is also this weekend so I likely miss it. It is the only place I know you can wear tights and dead animals parts, while carrying a sword and drinking beer. (Perhaps I can sneek away from the rock show for a few hours on Saturday?) http://www.meteoritearticles.com/renaissance.html I will take this time to remind everyone that the 2007 Kansas Meteorite Festival is coming up. It will be held July 7th in Haviland, Kansas. As time gets closer you will be able to find more information at the following link. http://www.havilandkansas.com/id4.html In sort of related news, we are starting work to get olivine from the pallasite meteorite as the state mineral. Two pallasite strewn fields and four different pallasites could have made us the Pallasite State...if the Wheat State wasn't chose long ago. We are starting a petition at the rock show, and have several helpful to do such, people already exciting about it. They are moving to make a state fossil right now as well, so this is good timing.
