You did a great job not at least telling the whole story - for those who didn't discover it yet:? ? http://www.niger-meteorite-recon.de/en/Santa-Vitoria-meteorite-1.htm? ? It's a real pleasute to read.? ? Ki nd regards,? ? Matthias? ? ? ----- Original Message ----- From: <info_at_niger-meteorite-recon.de>? To: <Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com>? Sent: Wednesday, September 13, 2006 1:33 PM? Subject: [meteorite-list] Santa Vitoria do Palmar meteorite finally official? ? To everybody interested & involved,? ? most of you already know that Meteoritical Bulletin N? 90 is out. The data base of the Bulletin has also been updated and we are happy to announce that the latest meteorite from Brazil, the beautiful unequilibrated Santa Vitoria do Palmar meteorite (L3), finally has become official.? ? Most of you will still remember the arguments on this list that accompanied the first news of the discoveries in Brazil. Only those who submitted meteorites themselves to the Meteoritical Society can imagine the relief the official status will bring. I can only encourage everybody to choose this long and sometimes winding road by submitting samples and complete find data to a classifying lab. Each piece of information will contribute to the knowledge transfer to coming generations.? ? Our honoured list member Larry Lebofsky, chief editor of Meteorite Magazine, was so kind to consider the publication of the complete story of the discoveries and the analysis of the Santa Vitoria do Palmar meteorite in the coming November issue. So everybody watch out for the coming issue and get a subscription if you aren't a subscriber yet.? ? We still keep three large slices of the SVdP meteorite, 600gm 175gm and 145gm respectively, each with both, the shock-blackened and the light coloured unaltered lithology. We will gladly deal with requests of scientific institutions or public collections to enable further studies on this exceptional meteorite. Please contact us for more information.? ? I would like to thank everybody involved, especially Dr. Ansgar Greshake for his thorough classification as well as the finder Senor Correia and the curator of the Museo Municipal Cel. Tancredo F. de Mello, Brazil, Senor Monzon, for their countless contributions.? ? Best regards? ? Svend Buhl? ? www.niger-meteorite-recon.de? ______________________________________________?
