Hi Pat and List

One name I'm familiar with is the Majuba meteorites. I think a couple were
found on the surface but they all were found with metal detectors. The
Majuba area is not a dry lake but a well known goldfield noted for it's
larger gold nuggets. My last trip there a friend found Majuba002 and all I
got were a few small stinky gold nuggets up to 1/2 ounce each !! Happy
Huntin John Blennert.

Subject: [meteorite-list] Meteorite Hunting East of Reno,NV request for
information

Hi All,

I will be in the area East of Reno (Fernley,NV)in mid
August (probably the hottest time of the year!). I
plan to do a couple days of meteorite hunting on the
dry lakebeds in the area. I am a novice at meteorite
hunting. I have been collecting meteorites for 15
years plus and have spent a lot of time studying
surface features etc. I will have multiple means of
navigation, lots of water, proper sun gear etc. I will
take a magnet on an string and probably my metal
detector as well. I will also have a digital camera to
document any meteroties in situ. I will be trying to
spot meteorites by eye.

So my questions are:

1) Is any one familiar with this area and can you
suggest a good place to hunt?
2) How likely are the coordinates in the meteoritical
database accurate? Are they offset a bit to hide the
true location to allow the original finder to continue
to search? The entries that I am looking at are
Bluewing 1-8, Kumiva Valley, Majuba1-3, Tungsten
Mountain 1-10.
3) Any other tips for a successful hunt?

The intent is not to get rich or change career. One of
the things on my list of things to do in my life is to
find a meteorite in the field.

Thanks,
     Pat Brown
