I interpreted "slightly bigger than the breadth of Honshu" to be the measure of the width of Honshu, not the length-- which would be from 50 to 230 km. If it was length, we're talking 1300 km. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honshu For me at least my trust in the credability of the "simulation" was damaged from the very beginning when the asteroid was shown to be volcanic.
