It's really weird and hard to imagine how it formed. In my sample, it's almost like the surface melted and folded over and into itself. Looks a bit like ropy lava. http://www.meteorites.com.au/features/melt.html Cheers, Jeff ----- Original Message ----- From: Notkin To: Meteorite List Sent: Wednesday, August 09, 2006 12:37 PM Subject: [meteorite-list] Re: Rocks From Space Picture of the Day - August 9, 2006 SPACEROCKSINC_at_aol.com wrote: > http://www.spacerocksinc.com/August_9.html Dear Michael: Thanks for including that photo of mine in your ongoing project. I forgot to include a caption, and thought the details might be interesting to our fellow listees. Pictured is a 98.7-gram shield-shaped Sikhote-Alin with faint rollover lip and unusual surface features. Someone posted a similar photo last year (Matt Morgan?), showing that knotty pattern on a Sikhote. I can't remember the verdict on what caused that. Does anyone else? Michael, keep up the great work!
