Carbonaceous chondrite A number of stones, totally weighing 369.3 g was bought in Erfoud (Morocco) by an anonymous buyer. The main mass is weighing 51.4 g. Classification and mineralogy (G.Pratesi, V.Moggi Cecchi, MSP): a cut surface on the type specimen displays rather large chondrules and some small white spots. In thin section several chondrules of various kinds (POP, PO, BO, RP) accounting for ~50% vol. and ranging from 500 to 600 ?m are visible, set in a fine intergrowth of microcrysts of phyllosilicates. Two clusters of olivine composition ranging from Fa0.18 to Fa9.93 mol. % and from Fa31.32 to Fa44.49 mol. % in the chondrules. A mean value of . Orthopyroxene is enstatitic (En98.10, Wo1.09). A pigeonitic pyroxene with variable composition is also present (Fs0.95-0.45, En59.42-93.22, Wo39.63-6.33). Chondrules glass is anorthitic (An90.33, Ab9.67 mol. %). Fe,Ni alloy and troilite are rather uncommon (less than 5% vol.). Rare apatite grains and CAIs are present. Oxygen isotope measurements (I.Franchi, R.Greenwood, Open University) O16/O18 = . Based on texture, mineralogy, chemistry and OI data, the meteorite is classified as a . carbonaceous chondrite. Terrestrial weathering grade is rather low (W1); optical features indicate a low shock stage (S1).
