Hi, Darren

Yes, that's all I ever get.

I thought a possible program malfunction on his end, or a virus that
constructs fake relpies,
attaches nasties that are then stripped by the various security scans in
servers along the way, or maybe
he just doesn't understand the proper mechanism of email relpies.

All his messages that I have received were addressed to me as originator
of the message replied to,
with me as their SOLE recipient, and NOT copied to the list, and I have
never received them through the
List.

Now, it appears that he has switched to Jerry! With the List copied,
too. But the fact that you have
received earlier messages shows that the message, or an identical one, went
to the List, but which I did
not receive. That is, well, curious.

The absence of any copy to the List is verified by reading the full
source version of the email, but
why wouldn't I have received another message if one was directed to the
List? Something is going on.

Dust off your Delete key, Jerry! Or eveybody, as the case may be.

These messages may very well not originate with him at all, but
originate with a virus that stole his
address book data, or all the email addresses in his received messages. His
reply to your inquiry
suggest he might be having some email problem.

Every month or so I get a "failure to deliver" response message on an
email message that I never
wrote or sent, with a subject line I would never compose, addressed to
someone I've never heard of.

This ability to "proxy" by sender and server the message origin with no
verification possible is one
of the chief weakness of the entire internet system. I don't see anyone
fixing it anytime, either. (Or
any way to fix it.)

I am fairly certain they do not originate with my machine, but are the
result of my email address
having been harvested from somewhere else (like this List, or other internet
places), as I run a small
totalitarian police state in my little domain of bits and bytes, with
multiple regiments of
hunter-killers circulating in its data-blood stream constantly!

And, perhaps most important, I do not have MicroSoft's mail program on
my machine, as it is (or was)
the chief target of those desiring an easy route into your computer, with
lots of available program hooks
to manipulate.

Before the List moved to another host a few years ago, there were viral
outbreaks from time to time,
but things are much more stable now.

Is anyone else getting these "empty" messages replying to their own
posts and nothing else?

I second the poll. Show of hands?
