Yes, and Bruno & Carine just gave me their okay to publicly announce their latest planetary find to the list: NWA 2737, nicknamed "Diderot", a new CHASSIGNITE. Not joking, it's the real thing, and I guess many papers will be published on it, soon. Have a look at Bruno & Carines website for some first impressions, and data: http://www.meteorite.fr/en/forsale/chassignite.htm There are also some publications in the French media, such as: http://actu.voila.fr/Article/article_sciences_050127165308.klad9pvc.html The TKW of this unusual find is 611 grams, and it was found back in 2000, and has just recently be recognized since it looks rather different from anything we know. It's almost pure black olivine, with minor interstitial glas (maskelynite). I also have a high-res picture of my new collection sample of NWA 2373 on my Martian meteorite website, somewhat hidden down below. Scroll down the page, and click on "This months special" or just follow the link to see it: http://www.timewarp.de/images/martian/NewCHS-2.19g.JPG Stunning, isn't it ????? And it's Bruno's & Carine's seventh Martian rock! Unbelievable, but true. I recommend to all of you in Tucson to visit Bruno & Carine at the show, and to seetheir new chassignite in person. I'm sure you won't regret it. All the best, Norbert Received on Fri 28 Jan 2005 01:55:04 PM PST |
