Gem, Mineral Show opens Friday
Arizona Silver Belt
January 11, 2005

The 48th annual Gem and Mineral Show is on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday,
Jan. 14-16, at the Gila County Fairgrounds. The show is open on Friday
and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is $2/adults, free for children with adult, and free for high
school students with ID.

Beautiful gems and minerals from all over the world will be on display.
There will be demonstrations in many phases of jewelry making, including
gemstone faceting, Native American silversmithing, enamel bead making,
channel work jewelry, fire agate cutting, and wire wrap jewelry.

Dealers will also be there with many items of jewelry, books, tools,
minerals, fossils, equipment, and bead making supplies. There will also
be grab bags and hourly drawings.

Arizona State University is scheduled to display a portion of its
meteorite collection with specimens from locations all over the world.
In conjunction with the ASU display will be a display of meteorites
collected by Ray Rhodes of Ft. Thomas. In addition, there will be an
educational display of volcanic rock from various central Arizona locations.

Also, food will be available at the snack bar, which is hosted by the
Fraternal Order of Police.
