Hi Alexander & all,
Every major collection owner I know has specifically asked me to
keep my knowledge of their collection sub rosa. There is an over riding
and single reason for this: they fear the possibility of robbery.
The single exception is Bob Haag, who's collection is in a room
built into a giant rock with a bank vault door out of the movies. It would
take THE ITALIAN JOB type force headed by Bruce Willis, Edward
Norton & Robert Deniro to break in. So, he has little to fear other
than another K-T event. Most others do not have quite as much security,
though I have seen some that would present overwhelming difficulties
to any would be burgler. In any event, they prefer a degree of anonymity -
at least limited to showing their collections to people they know.
Of course, even there, there is a risk, as a magician demonstrated
to Bob Haag once why he needs video cameras running at all times
when anyone is in his collection room. (Those who have seen
ROUNDERS are familiar with the phenomenal abilities possessed by
someone with highly developed slight of hand skills). So, now he not
only has perhaps the greatest secure room in the meteorite collecting
world, but also has video tapes of the entire room any time anyone
enters. Few, if any, institutions are so secure.
        Best wishes, Michael
