Aerolite Falls on a Monument
OSSAWATTAMIE, Kan., April 10. - An aerolite fell near this town yesterday=
afternoon, striking the monument of John Brown - or Oenwattamie Brown, a=
s he was sometimes called - erected to him by private subscription origin=
ated by Horace Greeley in 1863. The meteor broke off the left arm of the =
statue and passed through the dome and nave in a slightly southern easter=
ly direction, and through six feet of clay just south of the crypt, stopp=
ing only at bedrock. Experts say the aerolite is composed of pelium metal=
, known to exist only in the sun. =20
