That makes sense as far as my understandi= ng of metal meteorite goes. Maybe I should get the handbook of iron mete= orites (~$1400). As I am sure you know, Kamacite and Taenite both form i= n crystals. Plessite I would then imagine is a certain pattern of the K= amacite and Taenite crystals. I am a stone collector myself so my ignor= ance in iron meteorites is showing. But now, I guess I can look at my Ta= za etched pieces, and the unusual almost star like etch it creates...like= ly mimics this pattern to some degree(?). So then, if I took nickel out = of my Tinnie, being it is a axatite, or I guess I should say, if it would= have formed at a different temperature and therefore had a different deg= ree of nickel in it, it might create a pattern close to Taza when etched.= =20 While this was a private message Jeff, I think this might be of interest = to the group and perhaps some iron expert out there can add to this, I ho= pe you don't mind. (If anyone can reference me to a meteorite book other= the handbook of irons on this subject, I might own it). Mark Bostick Strangely....talking about meteorites on the e-mail group...:-) ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Kuyken Sent: Tuesday, February 10, 2004 11:11 PM To: MARK BOSTICK Subject: Plessite G'day Mark, The way I understand it is that Kamacite and Taenite are actually metalli= c iron minerals. Plessite is a mixture of these two but not actually a mi= neral in itself. Hope this helps.
