Ace Pickens of Odessa. "It is one of the few meteor craters in the United States,: said Pickens, "and, as an ancillary matter, there are several oil wells nearby, which could add to its attractiveness as a tourist spot. "There has been a great deal of effort for many years to develop the area further and it would fit in with the recent constitutional amendment which authorized $75 million in bond funds to finance the purchase of new park sites." Picken's HB 889 would authorize Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission to purchase the site and develop and maintain it as a state park of approximately 100 acres. The meteor crater development now is operated by the Permian Basin Meteorological Society.
