How You think, what size of > meteorite/asteroide can produce the same effects ? The results on tsunami generation differ from model to model, sometimes considerably. Moreover, it is also dependant on entry speed and composition of the impactor. But taking one source (Hills & Goda's modellling, "The breakup of small asteroids in the atmosphere", Astronomical Journal 105 (1993), 1114-1144), this indicates that for a 10 yards heigh tsunami when reaching shore at 1000 km of the source, this corresponds to an impactor body roughly 50-100 yards wide. - Marco ------ Dr Marco Langbroek Dutch Meteor Society (DMS) Leiden, the Netherlands 52.15896 N, 4.48884 E (WGS 84) e-mail: meteorites_at_dmsweb.org DMS website: http://www.dmsweb.org priv. website: http://home.wanadoo.nl/marco.langbroek ------ Received on Tue 28 Dec 2004 11:13:19 AM PST |
