For informing me about the hollow meteorites. I
sincerely appreciate the comments and links, and now
understand that "hollow aerolites" simply do not
exist, and therefore were not the inspiration for the
19th century tales I have come across.

Many thanks once again. I will post here my final
report on these tales if anyone is interested in
reading a bit of 'meteoric folklore.'
