Dear Stuart:
Under separate cover I'm sending you the sawing from Tambo Quimada (?), L=
ima, Peru. Sorry I forgot it.
I cut only your slice from the specimen, and it is about 8 or 10 g. short=
because it broke off on one of inclusion cavities, before I finished saw=
ing. So I just left it on the main block. My slice weighs 65.7g.
Yesterday I talked with Pres. Havill by phone. He said he had written you=
that they were now ready for the money.
I shall send you a copy of my report on the Xiquipilco Meteorites which w=
as made possible by your generosity and a bill for which expenditures was=
sent to the Univ. Please tell us if this credit line for the financing =
is satisfactory at you. The wording could be changed if you will.
I hope you can read this scratching. Mrs. Nininger is in Denver preparing=
for the youngest daughter's wedding. Business is picking up now.
Cordially,
(signed)
H.H. Nininger
Mark Note 1: It appears Nininger is talking about Tambo Quemado, but it d=
oes not look like he was trying to spell Quemado, Also most references s=
how Quemado as coming from Leoncio Peado, Ayacucho, Peru. Nininger refers=
to the location above as being in Lima, Peru. I will note that Nininger =
in all letters before to Perry referred to this meteorite as the "Peru" o=
f the "Tambo" iron. It is very well possible he just wasn't talented in s=
pelling and chose to skip the part of the name he had problems with. This=
might be the first time he used the full name and therefore, misspelled =
it.
Mark Note 2: This letter is much sloppier then most of the Nininger lette=
rs I have seen. Also he notes in the letter, "I hope you can read this s=
cratching. Mrs. Nininger is in Denver preparing for the youngest daughter=
's wedding." This could be a reference to the fact that Addie's handwrit=
ing might be most of Harvey's letters. All the previous Nininger letters=
are signed by Nininger so this is just a thought. I will also note that=
Addie was the one that wrote all those little numbers on the Nininger pi=
eces.
