Schweizerbart'sche Verlagshandlung, E. Koch, 23 pp.). English Translation: The Microscopic Properties of Meteorites, Vol. 4, No. 6 (Smithsonian Contributions to Astrophysics, Washington, D.C., 1964). Translation by J.A. Wood and E.M. Wood Figure 12 - Shergotty: eucrite A uniform mixture of augite and maskelynite. The augite shows no foliated structure but is sometimes twinned ... It displays no crystal outlines but fills the space between maskelynite crystals, which are colorless and isotropic. Most of the maskelynite is in elongated crystals, similar to feldspar. I have earlier described these crystals as cubic; their terminations often show right angles in section. All the light areas in figure 12 are maskelynite. The black grains and specks are magnetite.
