Hi Mike, Frank, and List, Another interesting tidbit culled from Buchwald's trilogy: "During the fire that followed the great earthquake in 1906 the building was completely ruined. A few fossils and meteorites could, however, be recovered from the rubble, but since the labels had been destroyed some confusion existed as to the identity of the various specimens. Linsley (1934) suspected that an alleged Canyon Diablo specimen in the Ferry Building was, in fact, the missing mass of Oroville, and Butler (1964) proved it to be so." Reference: Buchwald V.F. (1975) Handbook of Iron Meteorites, Vol. 3, pp. 949-950. Best wishes, Bernd To: meteoritehunter_at_comcast.net meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com Received on Tue 16 Sep 2003 02:03:27 PM PDT |
