I understand that when hunting on private property, you are supposed to get (written?) permission. I know that different Countries have different rules on whether or not a meteorite is property of finder or confiscated by government, or percentage of it taken for identification and record and display at museum, ect. My questions are regarding meteorites found in USA. What EXACTLY are the rules to guarentee that if you find one, say on public land ( State Park, lakeshore, river-bed, dry-lake, abandoned gravil pit, ect.) you can claim it without fear of confiscation, by State or Local authorities? I know this was an issue with the F.P. that supposedly "bounced" off the public sidewalk before hitting a home and was confiscated by local authorities ( Sorry to bring that unfortunate issue up), and there have been other instances. Is it the amount of money ( it's worth) that determimes whether or not a counter-claim is laid on it by local, state, or is it the classification of the fall or find that again, makes it confiscatable? To be classed, especially if it were something really significant, you do have to say where it was found right ? How does this work? When something is found on private property, after having been given permission to look, what is the obligation of the collector in regards to payment to land- owner, should a possible meteorite, or a meteorite be found, or land owners right to counterclaim pwnership rights? I would truly appreciate guideline answers on some of these questions please, or reference reading material? Thank-you and Best Regards, Marcie --WebTV-Mail-448-225 Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Message/RFC822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Received: from smtpinvite-3102.bay.webtv.net (209.240.204.242) by storefull-2152.public.lawson.webtv.net with WTV-SMTP; Thu, 11 Sep 2003 17:01:27 -0700 (PDT) Received: from pairlist.net (pairlist.net [216.92.1.92]) by smtpinvite-3102.bay.webtv.net (WebTV_Postfix+sws) with ESMTP id 1B42DBE08; Thu, 11 Sep 2003 17:01:26 -0700 (PDT) Received: from pairlist.net (localhost.pair.com [127.0.0.1]) by pairlist.net (Postfix) with ESMTP id 3B61B536ED; Thu, 11 Sep 2003 20:01:15 -0400 (EDT) Delivered-To: meteorite-list_at_pairlist.net Received: from mu.pair.com (mu.pair.com [209.68.1.23]) by pairlist.net (Postfix) with SMTP id 216F453600 for <meteorite-list_at_lists.meteoritecentral.com>; Thu, 11 Sep 2003 19:48:51 -0400 (EDT) Received: (qmail 12951 invoked by uid 7111); 11 Sep 2003 23:48:51 -0000 Delivered-To: arthur-meteoritecentral:com-meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com Received: (qmail 12948 invoked from network); 11 Sep 2003 23:48:51 -0000 Received: from nn8.excitenetwork.com (HELO xmxpita.excite.com) (207.159.120.62) by mu.pair.com with SMTP; 11 Sep 2003 23:48:51 -0000 Received: by xmxpita.excite.com (Postfix, from userid 110) id 3C9883E25; Thu, 11 Sep 2003 19:48:49 -0400 (EDT) To: meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com Subject: RE: [meteorite-list] Cold hunting question Received: from [68.154.234.210] by xprdmailfe11.nwk.excite.com via HTTP; Thu, 11 Sep 2003 19:48:49 EST X-AntiAbuse: This header was added to track abuse, please include it with any abuse report X-AntiAbuse: ID = 94ba2a1d8781d2e62c557639218a9921 Reply-To: joeeval_at_excite.com From: "Warren Zwanka" <joeeval_at_excite.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 X-Sender: joeeval_at_excite.com X-Mailer: PHP Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="EXCITEBOUNDARY_000__f502ec1871d701882a3058c08f451603"; Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Cc: Message-Id: <20030911234849.3C9883E25_at_xmxpita.excite.com> Sender: meteorite-list-admin_at_meteoritecentral.com Errors-To: meteorite-list-admin_at_meteoritecentral.com X-BeenThere: meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com X-Mailman-Version: 2.0 Precedence: bulk List-Help: <mailto:meteorite-list-request_at_meteoritecentral.com?subject=help> List-Post: <mailto:meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com> List-Subscribe: <http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list>, <mailto:meteorite-list-request_at_meteoritecentral.com?subject=subscribe> List-Id: Meteorite Discussion Forum <meteorite-list.meteoritecentral.com> List-Unsubscribe: <http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list>, <mailto:meteorite-list-request_at_meteoritecentral.com?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://www.pairlist.net/pipermail/meteorite-list/> Date: Thu, 11 Sep 2003 19:48:49 -0400 (EDT) X-Brightmail: Message tested, results are inconclusive --EXCITEBOUNDARY_000__f502ec1871d701882a3058c08f451603 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Just wondering who owns these areas you "cold hunters" are searching?
