We are not the south side of Chicago, we are 30 miles away. Our crime rate is among the lowest in Cook County.</P> <P>Park Forest is home to the Tall Grass Arts Assoc and the largest juried art fair in the suburban area. We host the Scenic 10k Labor Day Run, rated one of the top ten by Runners Magazine. We are a two time winner of the All American City Award. We are home to the Illinois Theatre Center, the only Actors Equity Company in the area. Our residents are among the best educated in the south suburbs</P> <P>Were meteor hunters ever approached by punks while flashing their cash? Possibly. Were the police aware of it? Probably. Did anything actually happen? No. End of story.</P> <P> </P> <P>The real story is that most residents welcomed the meteor pursuers, shared information with them, were eager to learn more about meteors and enjoyed the experience. A little positive feedback would be really nice from those who participated and profited from the hunt.</P> <P><BR><BR> </P></DIV><BR><BR><BR> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff3333><FONT face="Lucida Handwriting, Cursive">Annie</FONT> </FONT> <IMG height=12 src="http://graphics.hotmail.com/emrose.gif" width=12></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>From: almitt <ALMITT_at_KCONLINE.COM> <DIV></DIV>To: joseph_town_at_att.net <DIV></DIV>CC: meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com <DIV></DIV>Subject: Re: [meteorite-list] mean streets of PF <DIV></DIV>Date: Wed, 03 Sep 2003 11:32:44 -0500 <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>Hi Bill and all, <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>I have lived in the general area of Chicago all my life before 1963. Though I think <DIV></DIV>there are a lot of nice people who live in this area there area also a number of hard <DIV></DIV>core people and it isn't uncommon to hear of someone breaking down in an auto on <DIV></DIV>Chicago's south east side and running into trouble, shootings, car jackings, and a <DIV></DIV>variety of other problems (probably related to drugs). I seriously doubt you would go <DIV></DIV>into the Chicago Heights with money or anything of value out in the open during the <DIV></DIV>night time hours. You are kidding yourself if you don't think something couldn't <DIV></DIV>happen. <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>I live and work with people who grew up in that area and they have cautioned me, <DIV></DIV>people that lived in that area had cautioned me while I was hunting in the area so <DIV></DIV>there has to be something to the stories that I have heard. When I was in Chicago <DIV></DIV>itself one time looking for a camera store, the people in the store gave me detailed <DIV></DIV>directions on how to get to their store, and gave me areas to stay away from. They <DIV></DIV>advised me to lock my doors until at the store. Like any city it has its bad spots and <DIV></DIV>with all the people carrying wads of cash around at Park Forest, I am surprised that <DIV></DIV>someone didn't get mugged. All my best to you and the list! <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>--AL Mitterling <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV></DIV>______________________________________________ <DIV></DIV>Meteorite-list mailing list <DIV></DIV>Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com <DIV></DIV>http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list <DIV></DIV></div><br clear=all><hr> <a href="http://g.msn.com/8HMGENUS/2749??PS="><b>Get MSN 8</b> and enjoy automatic e-mail virus protection. </a> </html> Received on Wed 03 Sep 2003 02:04:34 PM PDT |
