Dear Ron, and List,

It should be noted that this is a VERY special find - the first
non-Antarctic Martian lherzolite/peridotite! That's the problem
with the term "shergottite" - we mostly think of basalts when we
hear it. But a lherzolite has not much in common with a basalt,
and if we compare the different Martian rocks to each other, this
new one is much more close to Chassigny than to Shergotty.

Have a look at my updated list of Martian Meteorites if you
want to see a picture of a small sample of NWA 1950.

Congratulations and BIG THANKS to Bruno & Carine! Did you know
that Bruno Fectay & Carine Bidaut did actually recover six (!)
of the 29 known Martian meteorites? NWA 480 ("Theodore Monod");
NWA 817 (the first NWA nakhlite); NWA 856 ("Djel Ibone"); NWA
1068 (the "picritic" or "olivine-phyric" shergottite); NWA 1669
("Al Mala'ika" or "The Angels"); and now NWA 1950, the first non-
Antarctic lherzolite/peridotite! Bruno & Carine - you really rock!
Keep up your fantastic work!!!

All the best,
Norbert
