I narrowly missed being struck by this falling "concrete chondrite", which "fell" in San Francisco's Candlestick Park on October 17, 1989 at 5:03p (earthquake, 7.0 on the Richter Scale), at Game Three of the World Series. I hastily stuck this piece in my pocket (as I ran like hell out from under the stepped-concrete stadium overhang, like everyone around me). Note the specimen's "Certificate of Authenticity" on the right. And no, it wasn't red-hot when I picked it up. ;-) Gregory P.S. At the moment the earthquake struck, I honestly DO remember thinking, "Well, if you have to die, it may as well be at the World Series." But while I underwent nothing more serious than a few minutes of terror and a subsequent bizarre few days "trapped" in a crippled major American city, of course many people lost their lives at that moment, so I don't wish this list-post to seem TOO light-hearted. -------------------------------1066435507 Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <HTML><HEAD> <META charset=3DUTF-8 http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; charse= t=3Dutf-8"> <META content=3D"MSHTML 6.00.2800.1264" name=3DGENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY style=3D"FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #fffff= f"> <DIV> <DIV><A title=3Dhttp://members.aol.com/sharkkb8/candlestickrock.jpg href=3D"= http://members.aol.com/sharkkb8/candlestickrock.jpg">http://members.aol.com/= sharkkb8/candlestickrock.jpg</A></DIV></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>From time to time listees acknowledge meteorite fall anniversaries, and= today is such a date, the 14th anniversary of a California f= all which is largely unknown by most collectors.
