Date: Thu Apr 22 10:27:53 2004 Message-ID: <008201c3b50f$7a21d3c0$1800a8c0_at_chupa> This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0083_01C3B4E5.914BCBC0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable A tip for cutting small meteorite slices (Chondrites) with a Dremmel tool is to use a thin cutoff wheel and paraffin. Take an old candle and cut into it while the wheel is spinning, then alternate a little bit of cutting the meteorite and cutting into the candle. It works miracles. (you need a nice small vice as well and a pad for your arm at the same level so that you can work accurately) =20 -CharlyV =20 -----Original Message----- From: meteorite-list-admin_at_meteoritecentral.com [mailto:meteorite-list-admin_at_meteoritecentral.com] On Behalf Of mark ford Sent: Thursday, November 27, 2003 4:58 AM To: Tim Gingell; meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com Subject: RE: [meteorite-list] Cutting Meteorites =20 =20 Tim, =20 Drimmel cutting bits don=92t tend to cut very well on rock they = basically =91chip their way through=92 , but you can cut small slices/micro=92s = with some success. =20 Better for cutting is a bench top =91tile cutter=92 (avalible from shops like B&Q and Tool stores) they cost about =A325 and work (Iv=92e used = one) they even have coolant tanks. =20 There is a bit of cutting loss due to the width of the blade, but on a cheap weathered NWA or something It=92s not a problem. =20 Cheers, Mark Ford =20 -----Original Message----- From: Tim Gingell [mailto:tim.gingell_at_blueyonder.co.uk]=20 Sent: 26 November 2003 20:38 To: meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com Subject: [meteorite-list] Cutting Meteorites =20 I have a few individuals that I would like to cut and I'm wondering if there are any blades that will suit Dremell drills as they are small pieces or is there anywhere in the UK that does this. =20 Thanks Tim ------=_NextPart_000_0083_01C3B4E5.914BCBC0 Content-Type: text/html;
