It should come as no surprise that the Chixulub material turned out to be a terrestrial. It was found to be Geothite and Hematite in combination with no nickel. So much for those $20.00 nickel tests sold on ebay that the finder used. Some other material from Northwest Africa that was tested turned out to be very interesting so all was not a loss in the lab today. This, once again, proves the importance of insisting that suspected meteorites be tested before making a purchasing decision. As long as people bid on meteorite wrongs they will continue to be listed. In this case one specimen was put up for sale and sold so three more were listed soon afterwards and also sold. It looks like four people are entitled to a refund, the best of luck. Our advice is to stop bidding on untested material. Wishing everybody well, Adam and Greg Hupe IMCA 2185 Received on Thu 20 Nov 2003 01:06:10 AM PST |
