Hello, Harlan and the list,

The first question, I donīt know, but do know, the first man-made
diamonds were russian origin.

The second question, the etche pattern doesnīt show, if the FeNi
has cooled faster than 1 degree Celsius in a mA or so, itīs impossible
to create those circumstanses on the earth.
Anyway, according the description, Shirokovsky metal contains 20 -
47 wt% Ni, and this is too much for the etche pattern, like in Ataxites.

By the way, please, have a look on the site;

http://www.pallasite.ru/

Nice photogallery, but not a piece of a meteorite in it. Well, if I had
150 kg:s, I sure would add some pics... Also, I donīt know, if the
russian metal-detectors are water-proof, but the model in the picture
looks to me more wise to use on the ground than in the under-water
search...;-

Also an open question to me is, why they didnīt use a magnetometer
in the serach...

best rgds,

pekka
