The second question, the etche pattern doesnīt show, if the FeNi has cooled faster than 1 degree Celsius in a mA or so, itīs impossible to create those circumstanses on the earth. Anyway, according the description, Shirokovsky metal contains 20 - 47 wt% Ni, and this is too much for the etche pattern, like in Ataxites. By the way, please, have a look on the site; http://www.pallasite.ru/ Nice photogallery, but not a piece of a meteorite in it. Well, if I had 150 kg:s, I sure would add some pics... Also, I donīt know, if the russian metal-detectors are water-proof, but the model in the picture looks to me more wise to use on the ground than in the under-water search...;- Also an open question to me is, why they didnīt use a magnetometer in the serach... best rgds, pekka harlan trammell wrote: > in the manufacture of steel, siliceous minerals float on the molten > iron and are not mixed in because of the iron's greater density. even > in a zero -gravity situation, the density differences would push the > lighter materials to the surface or outside of the molten iron body > UNLESS there was extreme pressure and current such as found in the > mantles of planets. in the shirokovsky scheme, how would the olivene > be thoroughly mixed? also, would an etche pattern show up even if the > "iron matrix" in a fake was made from actual meteorite like gibeon , > sikhote shrapnel etc.? > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 > <http://g.msn.com/8HMHENUS/2731??PS=> and get 2 months > FREE*______________________________________________ Meteorite-list > mailing list Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com > http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list -- Pekka Savolainen Jokiharjuntie 4 FIN-71330 Rasala FINLAND + 358 400 818 912 Group Home Page: http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/eurocoin Group Email Address: eurocoin_at_smartgroups.com --------------090605090207090707000509 Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

Hello, Harlan and the list,

The first question, I don´t know, but do know, the first man-made
diamonds were russian origin.

The second question, the etche pattern doesn´t show, if the FeNi
has cooled faster than 1 degree Celsius in a mA or so, it´s impossible
to create those circumstanses on the earth.
Anyway, according the description, Shirokovsky metal contains 20 -
47 wt% Ni, and this is too much for the etche pattern, like in Ataxites.

By the way, please, have a look on the site;

http://www.pallasite.ru/

Nice photogallery, but not a piece of a meteorite in it.
