She IS selling it as a TRUE story. At $2500 a pop (plus traveling
expenses).
She also most likely knows that it isn't a real meteorite - that is why she
threatens to sue when anyone confronts here.
She will never have it tested because then she can no longer claim that the
story is true. "Ignorance is bliss (and financially rewording?)."
If she was willing to sell it as just a "story", then I would have no
argument with that.

Regarding Ms. Polacco,

In private e-mail she compared me to a person trying to ruin the story of
Santa Claus. So it seems clear that she knows her story isn't really true.
The problem for me isn't even her error or knowledge of it. It was her
attempt to CENSOR another author while she tried to cover her financial ass.
I tried to ascertain which details of the story were true or at least based
on truth. I was very nice about it and gave her every opportunity to have
constructive input into the paragraph which mentioned her book. She
responded with a (pretty lame, grant you) attempt to intimidate me into
silence. She flat-out admitted that she didn't want to lose any revenue from
her little talks and that this was the primary motivation for her threats.
Compare this attitude to her public facade in which she tells children not
to wish for themselves or to wish for money. There is a word for this. That
word is "hypocrisy." Just because her books are nice doesn't mean that she
is.
