Those of you who are interested in thin sections, teaching about meteorites, understanding meteorites better and so forth can definitely learn something new from this teaching item. It took about 100 hours to produce it and the help of 4 great scientists: Duncan Steel, David Kring LPI; Steve Ostro, JPL; and the gentleman who invented the Torino Scale - Richard Binzel of MIT. Everybody on this list who is truly interested in meteorites usually already knows about the Torino Scale, the meteorite involved in a religion, and the Beehive Diagram. Asteroids and Meteorites poster: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/scimall-usa/asandme.html This poster is available for shipment at the end of this week. I also have Manson tsunami material that is certified. The Manson structure is one of the largest in the USA and is located in of all places, Iowa. This material comes from someone who was a friend of Gene Shoemaker, back in the 90's, before his untimely death in Australia. Its official name is "Crow Creek" and comes from southestern South Dakota. PDF's or planar deformation features (shocked quartz) are evident. Those of you who like thin sections should enjoy this. It is probably by far rarer than the rarest breccia. The meteorite collector is eternally interested in rare material. This is probably one of the rarest materials on Earth. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/scimall-usa/mantsunmat.html The mother of all shattercones is available at: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/scimall-usa/angelwings.html and today only I will take $900 for it. It was a personal struggle getting it down off the mountain. Sarah Jensan Scientifics Received on Tue 06 May 2003 09:25:24 AM PDT |
