I believe you can get your r.h. to go a bit lower with the clay, by just a few %. The disadvantage is that clay absorbs moisture whereas with silica it is adsorption. After the clay becomes saturated it can release some of its moisture content back into the air around it depending on its temperature, whereas silica will continue to retain it, so one must keep a watch on the conditions in the container. The activated clay is a bit cheaper than silica packets. I don't get near calcium chloride as chlorine seems to be a forbidden entity where meteorites are concerned. We offer (plug coming,...be aware!) silica gel packets on our website at www.meteorite1.com and humidity indicator cards. I also can provide the activated clay packets at a slightly lower cost, although I am not currently listing it. I can provide this information on request. (I have it in stock as I use it in our cases for the museum collection and it works well for us.) Would any of you prefer using one of these types over silica gel?
