It is very well written and fascinating (no wonder though as the author is a "freelance writer" :-) One can really feel the thrill and the enthusiasm that your report imparts to meteorites from Lady Luna (and from Mars). There is a listing of lunar meteorites on page 13. Ttwo Japanese Antarctic lunaites and one NWA are described as "LUN G": Yamato 793169, Asuka 881757, and NWA 773. What does the "G" stand for? Yamato 793169 is basaltic, NWA 773 is described as a "cumulate olivine norite regolith breccia". Asuka 881757, on the other hand, is described as showing "... an extraordinarily coarse-grained GABBROIC structure..." Does the "G" stand for "gabbroic" and, if so, who classified the other two lunaites as "LUN-G"? Reference: CLASSEN N. (2003) The Quest for the Moon - Confessions of a Lunatic (METEORITE May 2003 Volume 9, No. 2, pp. 8-13). Best May 1 regards, Bernd Received on Thu 01 May 2003 07:09:10 AM PDT |
