Mark and List,
This sounds like a word-of-mouth story after being passed through a
dozen persons.
(If compared to the first version, it is barely recognizable.)
How can the person driving the sled dogs also be "traveling about fifty
feet behind the sled..."?
Why was he not on the sled?
What are the chances of a meteor/ite hitting a telegraph line and the
lone
telegraph repairman in remote Alaska?
More likely he was checking or installing the lines and ventured to
close to someone's gold claim/personal property.
Unfriendly as it may be, he wound up on the receiving end of a dynamite
pass.
Then again, the 'meteorite hoaxer' may have moved to Alaska!
There is no mention or record of any meteorite from that area!
Best,
ken
