If anyone wants I can = email photos of both. Mike Farmer ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Jeff Kuyken=20 To: Meteorite List=20 Sent: Friday, July 18, 2003 1:13 AM Subject: [meteorite-list] Of Mesosiderites & Diogenites There has been a bit of talk about the pairings of Mesosiderites and = also Metal Rich Diogenites. I have been fortunate enough to obtain a = piece of NWA 1827 (Metal-Rich Diogenite) and today a piece of NWA 1879 = (Mesosiderite). I expected these two specimens to be different, but = under a 10x loupe they don't look that dissimilar at all. Both seem to have crystal clusters but they do vary in colour a = little. The crystal in NWA 1827 is a brown/orange while NWA 1879 looks a = little closer to green/yellow. The metal in the matrix is basically = indistinguishable between the two while the crust does seem somewhat = finer and more crystallised in the Mesosiderite. All in all; both = impressive meteorites! It is very interesting to see all these (dare I say 'similar pieces') = coming onto the market together. Does anyone have any further = information or opinions on these two or other like specimens? I'd be = very interested to hear as would others I'm sure.
