These fake eBay mails have lately come mainly from China, also from other locations, even several ones / day, so itīs quite easy to underrestand, eBay wants the e-mail base user-IDs changend. Well, I have also recived several notes from eBay to change my identity, but I still have the "delete"-button left on my keyboard...;- We all will miss the Bigcollector, there was something in that ID...;- There are some ways to try to limit the spam you are reciving, you can use filters, and also just accept cookies on the sites you know, itīs safe and neccessery. Anyway, if you are a member of the mailing- lists or write to the news-groups, itīs very hard to cover your e-mail against spam. I have also another, very privat one to use for more confidential communication with the strong encryption. Think the spam is not a main problem, but if you are a hevy-user of www / e-mail / newsgroups, itīs very easy to build your profile, mostly in commercial purposes and just to send spam you might be interrested in. The worse case is, if someone wants to know, what do you eat, which kind of car you drive and so on in some another purposes. Well, web and e-mail is not the best ones to know that; when you use your creditcard + perhaps some bonuscards, itīs not so difficult to find out, that you ate chinese on 7:th July and had your car repaired on the 8:th on 9:th you have said on the web, that the drugs should be free ...and so on. This far I donīt see this a big problem, but in the future the situation can be different. So it may be wise at least to try to limit the abuse of your and your personality. Also some webwasher-programs are good. In several pages on the web you can see the advertisements of the other sites. The main purpose of these ads is just to send a cookie-file to your computer, not really trying to sell something to you, so itīs wise to accept the cookies only from the sites you know are trusted and the purpose of cookies must be honest. And itīs not so comfortable, if you son, wife or mother in law happens to check your stored cookies and finds several sex-sites, Donald Duck-site, some drug-site and so on... It may be a bit difficult to try to explain after that, I`m just using my computer for working...;- take care, pekka magellon wrote: >Mark, >I too have been getting a tremendous amount of spam since June. >How about others? >Best, >Ken > >http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/magellon/ > > >______________________________________________ >Meteorite-list mailing list >Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com >http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list > -- Pekka Savolainen Jokiharjuntie 4 FIN-71330 Rasala FINLAND + 358 400 818 912 Group Home Page: http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/eurocoin Group Email Address: eurocoin_at_smartgroups.comReceived on Sun 06 Jul 2003 07:29:47 PM PDT |
