Hi Desmond and list,

Yes, diluted (5% or less) ferric tri-cloride ( Fe Cl 3 ) works well. I
used it for many years for some art work (etching cupper plates)
and I also used it to etch iron meteorites - it's not a very harmfull
acid. In Switzerland you can get it in every drugstore.
