Hi :-)

First of all: thank you to all who have already become a user at
www.worldofmeteorites.com. I am still adding features to this portal,
and one of it is my christmas present to you.

I just opened the "Virtual Meteorite Museum" there. This is a gallery
for meteorite pictures. But this one isn't just for looking. This one is
for you :-)

There are three sections: The Museum itself, the Field pics section and
the personal section. Let me talk about the personal section first:

In this section, you can create a folder for your private collection
pics and then upload pictures to it. This is VERY easy, just via the
web, and you can add comments to the pics as well as a caption. The
folder can only be modified by you, so you can add, delete, change and
do things as you like. And you can show off your collection to the world
:-).

The same is true for the field pics section: create a folder and upload
pics from your expedition.

The biggest part should be the Virtual Meteorite Museum. If you have a
beautiful specimen, post it there. Over the time, we should be able to
gather a lot of nice pics and this will really become a virtual museum.

There is a naming convention I ask you to stick to: The Caption contains
the Name of the item and its size, for example "NWA 812, 1,25g". The
description should contain (in this order): Classification, date of
fall/find, location of fall/find, TKW, additional info. If we stick to
this convention, it will be very easy to browse the museum (people can
search the museum by entering the name of the meteorite).

This is all for free :-). I give you the tools, you add content :-).

One more thing: look at the newsbits I have posted on the site so far.
These are examples, and you can do the same. You can announce your ebay
auctions. You can post new classification data, you can post something
about a new fall - whatever you like. Just use the "submit news" link
and type away. Don't be afraid, I will edit the stories in the beginning
if necessary.

The nice thing about worldofmeteorites is that members can use the site
as it were theirs. I firmly believe this portal will be a great tool for
us, and I invite you to use it to your advantage.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Bernhard
