I know that petrographic type 3 is defined as unequilibrated,=0D but from what I have read, the subtypes (3.0-3.9) also further divide=0D this into "unequilibrated" and "highly unequilibrated". The following=0D paragraph was taken from my website but unfortunately I did not record a=0D reference.=0D _______________________________=0D =0D Just as there exists a metamorphic discontinuity in=0D the SiC content of the ordinary chondrite groups (between=0D petrologic grades 3.4 and 3.5), the CO group shows a similar=0D hiatus between petrologic grades 3.0 and 3.1, defining those=0D members that are highly unequilibrated. =0D _______________________________=0D =0D So it seems that a different division exists for different meteorite=0D classes. This is something I'll try to research better.=0D =0D Regards,=0D David=0D =0D ______________________________________________=0D Meteorite-list mailing list=0D Meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com=0D http://www.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/meteorite-list=0D =2E=20 --------------Boundary-00=_BFH46RO0000000000000 Content-Type: Text/HTML; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; charset=3Diso-8859-= 1"> <META content=3D"IncrediMail 1.0" name=3DGENERATOR> <!--IncrdiXMLRemarkStart> <IncrdiX-Info> <X-FID>FLAVOR00-NONE-0000-0000-000000000000</X-FID> <X-FVER></X-FVER> <X-CNT>;</X-CNT> </IncrdiX-Info> <IncrdiXMLRemarkEnd--> </HEAD> <BODY style=3D"BACKGROUND-POSITION: 0px 0px; FONT-SIZE: 12pt; MARGIN: 5px= 10px 10px; FONT-FAMILY: Arial" bgColor=3D#ffffff background=3D"" scroll=3D= yes ORGYPOS=3D"0" X-FVER=3D"3.0"> <TABLE id=3DINCREDIMAINTABLE cellSpacing=3D0 cellPadding=3D2 width=3D"100= %" border=3D0> <TBODY> <TR> <TD id=3DINCREDITEXTREGION style=3D"FONT-SIZE: 12pt; CURSOR: auto; FONT-F= AMILY: Arial" width=3D"100%"> <DIV>Hi David and list</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Ok...</DIV> <DIV>Is this about right then:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3.0 is called "highly unequilibrated". </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3.1 - 3.9 are "just" unequilibrated. </DIV> <DIV>with a diffuse transition from the first to the other ?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So it is ok to call a 3.8 for unequilibrated i guess.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks for answering.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am happy to have "e-mail friends" like all of you on the list !</D= IV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Best</DIV> <DIV>Lars</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV id=3DIncrediOriginalMessage><I>-------Original Message-------</I></D= IV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV id=3Dreceivestrings> <DIV dir=3Dltr style=3D"FONT-SIZE: 11pt" <i><B>From:</B></I> <A href=3D"m= ailto:dgweir_at_earthlink.net">David Weir</A></DIV> <DIV dir=3Dltr style=3D"FONT-SIZE: 11pt" <i><B>Date:</B></I> 28. april 20= 03 23:44:34</DIV> <DIV dir=3Dltr style=3D"FONT-SIZE: 11pt" <i><B>To:</B></I> <A href=3D"mai= lto:lars.b_at_pedersen.tdcadsl.dk">Lars Pedersen</A></DIV> <DIV dir=3Dltr style=3D"FONT-SIZE: 11pt" <i><B>Cc:</B></I> <A href=3D"mai= lto:meteorite-list_at_meteoritecentral.com">Meteorite-list</A></DIV> <DIV dir=3Dltr style=3D"FONT-SIZE: 11pt" <i><B>Subject:</B></I> Re: [mete= orite-list] Classification question-Equilibration vs Differentation</DIV>= </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hello Lars,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I can add a bit to what has been said, although it may add further</= DIV> <DIV>confusion.
